A neutral grounding resistor is composed of enclosure, resistors, disconnecting switch, CT,  heater, lightning arrester, etc. The primary purpose of a Neutral Grounding Resistor (NGR) is to limit the fault current already present in a single line to ground fault. That is why NGRs are mostly employed in low and medium voltage (LV and MV) distribution networks to ensure generators and transformers remain protected from damaging currents in the event of an earth fault.
 

At present, China has a lot of power distribution network using a neutral point resistance grounding runs. After installing the neutral grounding resistor cabinet, when the occurrence of non-metallic grounded affected ground resistance, and the current flowing through the ground than the neutral point earthed metallic significantly reduced, while the sound phase voltage rises too significantly reduced, zero- sequence voltage value is about half of the single-phase metallic grounded. Thus, the use of resistance grounded neutral point, single-phase ground can be reduced when transient over-voltage and over-voltage arc grounding eliminate some resonance over-voltage, and can use a simple protection devices quickly select the fault line, cut point of failure.
